VISI.NEWS | BANDUNG – China Ministry of State Security (MSS) has issued a stark public warning about a serious national security threat allegedly posed by a foreign company.

According to the MSS, the firm is suspected of using a cryptocurrency token issuance as a cover to collect users’ iris biometric data on a global scale including from Chinese citizens.

MSS claimed the project endangers national security and severely infringes on the privacy of millions. “This company is leveraging blockchain technology and crypto incentives to attract mass participation, but behind the scenes, it is harvesting sensitive biometric data,” said an MSS spokesperson.

Chinese authorities added that the technology being used can link iris data to digital identities, potentially serving intelligence or geopolitical manipulation purposes by foreign actors.

“Iris biometric data is not only unique but also permanent. Once compromised, it cannot be changed,” the agency warned.

While the MSS did not mention the company by name, analysts suggest the warning is likely directed at recent global crypto projects that have been aggressively collecting biometric data in exchange for free tokens or access to exclusive digital platforms.

The MSS has urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid sharing personal information, particularly biometric data, with foreign entities that lack clear accountability and transparency.
