VISI.NEWS | BANDUNG – OpenAI has officially launched GPT-5, the latest version of its artificial intelligence (AI) model powering ChatGPT.
GPT-5 is claimed to possess reasoning and problem-solving skills equivalent to a doctoral-level intelligence across multiple disciplines.
The release comes just days after OpenAI announced that ChatGPT has surpassed 700 million monthly active users globally, making it one of the most widely used AI platforms in the world.
However, the launch has raised significant concerns. Experts and workers alike are questioning whether GPT-5’s capabilities could threaten jobs in sectors like law, medicine, education, and journalism.
“GPT-5 can draft legal arguments, diagnose basic medical symptoms, and even design entire school curriculums. That’s impressive but also deeply unsettling,” said Dr. Amelia Hartono, a technology ethics specialist at MIT.
The model also includes advanced multimodal capabilities, allowing it to interpret text, images, audio, and even video content with deeper contextual understanding. Yet critics warn of the risks, including misuse for deepfakes, large-scale disinformation, and public opinion manipulation.
OpenAI stated that GPT-5 has undergone extensive safety testing and features built-in monitoring systems to prevent abuse. Still, whether these safeguards are enough to address global concerns remains an open question.
